Aqua is one of those colors that just soothes the soul, especially in the bedroom. When paired with white it creates a calming and relaxing atmosphere that makes us want to just climb right into bed. Aqua is great for use all over or just through accessories, there's really no wrong way.
We absolutely love the aqua in the bedroom inspiration (photo 1, above) from A Thinking Life. The all over white with splashes of aqua is so refreshing and the addition of the metal chair adds an extra bit of interest to the space.
Image 3 illustrates that aqua paires really well with like colors, especially in the green family. The white walls and curtains are the perfect simple backdrop for the combination of different greens and of course, aqua.
Image 4 demonstrates how aqua can also work in a much larger application.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I painted an old stool in an turquoise/aqua color and it turned out amazing. It has quickly become one of my favorite items.
Pictures here, if anyone is interested: http://theredhousebythelake.blogspot.com/2011/02/my-little-blue-stool.html
I've been looking for some curtains in an aqua shade for my bedroom, but have been having so much trouble finding anything! Pre-made curtains tend to come in such blah colors, and I've been trying to find some appropriate fabric to make my own but also not turning up much. Anyone have any suggestions for bright (budget) curtains or good fabric stores?
Jaimie: I have seen some aqua curtains at Target. Some of them were pretty inexpensive.
Another place to try would be places geared more towards kids and teens, since they tend to have brighter colors.
PBTeen had this drapery that could work:

I had a tiny can of aqua paint sample and I used it to great advantage in our old farm bathroom. We couldn't afford to redo the bath so I just had fun with it. Such a happy color!
Beautiful rooms! I just embraced that color recently. I've been afraid of it for some many years because I associated it with tacky Southwest.
What is the cool branch light above the bed in the first picture - that would work perfect in our bedroom/loft??
I like bluish green with greenish yellow. I also like greenish blue with saturated clear green. Those pairing can bring back fond memories of the late 60's and the 70's.
I've had the same problem when looking for curtains and fabric. I turned to looking at table cloths. I found a great sturdy cotton fabric with a beautiful print on a large table cloth on clearance at Target. Good luck!
