We found this video of Farrow & Ball color consultant Joa Studholme's home and really enjoyed it. She talks you through each room of her house, explaining the paint colors used and her rationale. One bit of surprising small-space advice offered up by Studholme...
"If you have a small, dark room and you paint it white, you end up with a small, dark, dull room. So use really strong, dramatic colors in dark spaces and leave the whites for big, light, airy-feeling rooms."
We enjoyed seeing her dark-painted entryway that leads to the light, bright living room. The wall and floor colors in these rooms were simply reversed, which is a simple solution to dealing with contrasting spaces. Studholme also shares the names of the Farrow & Ball paint colors used throughout her home, which can be helpful upon viewing them put to use in actual spaces. Bonus: the "work hard & be nice to people" print sitting on the floor in her kitchen.

I love dramatic foyers! I have yet to convince my partner to love it as well. I'll have to show her this video.
Joa's advice for small spaces is spot on. It forever drives me nuts when people say "Dark or strong colours make spaces look smaller." It's just the opposite really. That's why tiny theatre spaces are always painted out black - so you can't actually see where the boundaries are.
^ Agreed. My small rooms are cozy caves.
I really enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing.
I really want to know about that headboard.
Dramatic! Photo quality very poor however- what happened?
