We can't believe we didn't hear about this until now. Trade School is a 30-day pop up "store" on the Lower East Side of Manhattan wherein you can take a class every night with a range of specialized teachers in exchange for basic items and services. For example, want to learn how to compost? Teacher Amanda Matles only wants some homemade bread or a pretty blouse in exchange.
Trade School was conceived by OurGoods.org to encourage artists and designers to trade with one another. The 30-day experiment started on January 25th and runs through February 28th, so you still have some time to get in on it! Unfortunately, many of the classes are full (such as How To Make Butter and How To Make Herbal Concentrates), so check out the list of the remaining classes before you're shut out.
Visit Trade School at 139 Norfolk in the Lower East Side from January 25th to March 1st. Their hours are:
11am-3pm: Co-working for TradeSchool teachers
3pm-6pm: Barter Agents Available
6pm-9pm: TradeSchool
Check out the list of available classes here.

That is such a cool idea. Hopefully we'll see something like this in SF one day.
