It is hard to pinpoint exactly what makes a bathroom "traditional". After all, traditional is a rather vague blanket term that often overlaps with retro, vintage and eclectic styles. Perhaps it is easier to define what traditional bathrooms are not: They are not "spa-like", sleek, daring or minimalist. To me, traditional bathrooms are dominated by classic elements that transcend contemporary trends.
These bathrooms tend not to jump out at you as decade-specific (e.g., a retro 40s bathroom with pink and grey tiles), though they often contain elements of another era. Nor do traditional bathrooms make wild or whimsical statements with overly ornate or eclectic elements. Still, while traditional bathrooms are more likely to defy short-lived design trends they need not be staid or bland. Classical bathrooms can be calming, subtle and elegant. And they are incredibly adaptable: It is easy to spice up a traditional, unfussy foundation with simple, impermanent design elements (accessories, lighting and towels) that can be easily (and cheaply) changed over time.
What are some characteristics of traditional bathrooms?
1) Natural stone or porcelain subway or hex tiles
2) Natural stone countertops (e.g. marble) in neutral colors
3) White cotton towels and bath mats
4) Freestanding bathtubs, especially claw foot tubs
5) Pedestal and console sinks or sinks with a traditional cabinet base
6) Hinged mirrored medicine cabinets
7) Vintage or antique mirrors
8) Chrome or nickel-plated fixtures
9) A lot of neutral color and/or white, including a black-and-white combination
10) Wainscoting and wallpaper

Shaw's Original Fir...
1 & 2 are my favorites of the bunch
This has always bothered me - why cant you put an arrow and let me click through the pictures instead of making us click on each picture.
I love these bathrooms. I want to love apartment therapy functionality more.
I agree with potpie. particularly when you are goofing off at work. it would be easier to flip through
Potpie has it right. It is really annoying to have to click each picture. I like #6.
OMG, wallpaper in picture #1! Where? I need it! :D I just moved and this would be perfect. Help anyone?
I also agree with Potpie.
Okashi I love that wallpaper too!
Someone help us! XD
Graham and Brown cherry blossom is the closest wallpaper I can think of....but it's not an exact match. GL!
Yay, potpie is my new hero! Yes, yes & yes to that comment. The interface with the photos for all the posts here is so needlessly cumbersome - and truly irksome. Hope it gets fixed with the site's redesign.
I, too, would like to know where to get that wallpaper. Hope someone can help!
I'm standing on a balcony, singing to the people Evita-style.
I hope Maxwell and friends are listening!!
wow, gorgeous wallpaper...
I read through the comments on the house tour and found the wallpaper because I love it too! It is Seraphine in Alpine Blue Green by Romo and can be found here:

I love 9 and 11 the most.
Thank you, Vestalis! :D
Thanks Vestalis. Wonder why all the cool wallpaper is aways from that site? It's hard to find a lot of this paper readily available on US websites.
