Maps have been in our lives for years and years. We were first introduced to them in school when we were first learning about the many countries and beautiful places all around our world. Back then, we thought maps were strictly for school, but now that we're all grown up — we actually really like them.
If you already own maps (or even globes) this is an extremely inexpensive way to add art to your walls. You're even luckier if you have a collection of maps because you can piece them together and create your own wallpaper for a childs room, library, pantry or small reading nook.
The biggest impact of maps as well art happens when a really large map is used on a blank wall. Hang it loosely with tacks, create a faux frame on the wall or if you have the extra bucks — take it to get professionally framed. If you're not looking to take up a large amount of wall space, mount your smaller map on a thin piece of wood and lean it up against a wall!

I used to have anawesome map collage - in our new more grown up place I'm planning to hang a big vintage french school room map above the bed.
One of my favorite apartment pieces: I found a reproductions of vintage maps that were sold as gift wrap. Instead, I framed them in hand made frames (made from weathered wood). They are hanging as a pair above my bed.
I love maps! I think it's partially because of the pulldown map in Sleepless in Seattle. We have a San Fran print from Ork Poster in our library, but I'd love to add more maps to our house.
I collect metro maps from places I visit as souvenirs. They're generally free, don't take a lot of space in the luggage, and look nice on the wall. Woo!
Love 'em, and also other pull down charts from the pre-projector era (we have the skeletal system hanging in our dining room). But even more, I LOVE that bench. We also have a very narrow entry area, and I've been looking and looking for something very thin...now I realize I need a school bleacher bench, or something like it! Thanks.
I work in a famous high end restaurant and scattered around we have several wine region maps that I love. I'm trying to figure out how to get them to give me one or two.
We have a map above our couch which I love. We got a cork board and painted it black, tacked on the map and have little colored pins of where I've been, where my husband has been and where we have both been. It's a lot of fun and a great conversation starter :-)
I have been looking for the duvet cover in picture number 3 (Dream of The World, Southern Living)....can´t find it! I love it!
Can anybody tell me where is it from?
@mayita
it might be john robshaw? he does such beautiful textiles..
@brooklynbleu nope, I was on the website, is not there (and thank god! I cannot pay 450 bucks for a queen sized duvet!)...thank you anyway!

Wow, i just went onto a site called www.empiricalstyle.com , they have a massive collection of wall maps, mainly cloth covered from around the world.
The ones from the post above are awesome but incredibly exspensive! For a smaller more affordable version I found these:
