We've entered a new era with respect to cast-offs. Gone are the days of cinder blocks and plastic milk crates. Today it's all about wooden pallets and cable spools. We've spotted endless examples of the resourceful turning pallets into tables, shelves, beds and other furniture pieces. And these cast-offs have entered into childrens' spaces lately as well.
1. We love the re-use of this wood cable spool as a low maintenance coffee table.

Where do you get wooden pallets? I love the ideas but have no clue about that.
Look at loading docks in industrial areas, too.
I love this wooden spool and am wondering where I can get this too.
Love the pallets too. We just have to make sure we sand them well, and stain'em. To avoid that our little ones get hurt.
What great projects! I recently used the crates to make a fall party table and they worked perfectly! For mine, I simply went to Crate and Barrel and asked the guys in the back if I could take some- they gave me as many as I could load:)
All of these are great ideas. But who has white couches so close to a watercoloring session? Lol.
I think that wooden pallets are made from treated wood and probably shouldn't be used for kids' furniture, especially unpainted.
luv the slipcovers ... where can i get them or how do i diy?
not at all new. we had a cable spool coffee table 30+ years ago. it was not considered chic.
Love the pallet bed - suggested to my nephew we build for his son when he is ready for a "big-boy" bed. As for availability to the person who commented where to find - drive into any light industrial area where the dhipping and receiving takes place and you can find them - ask and they are yours. I own a flooring store and have acess to plenty - can choose from the best...Diane
