In a special report from Paris' Maison & Objet show earlier this year, we predicted that geometric patterns would be big for 2012. Sure enough, lately we've been spotting bold, geometric prints everywhere. Rendered in colorful hues, basic shapes like triangles, squares and diamonds bring a jolt of life to a modern space — and appeal to the kindergartner in all of us.

This immediately made me think of the Gotye "Somebody that I used to know" video that is so popular right now!
I hate this trend with everything except hexagons. I've always found interlocking hexagons to be a beautiful pattern that feels more modernist than outright geometric -- maybe because I'm in love with the Gaudí sidewalk tiles on Barcelona's Passeig de Gràcia that are interlocking hexagons with a botanical textured pattern. THOSE I love; the rest reminds me of ugly math problems! :)
I love it with all my heart because i've always liked it. Since my grandma brought some swedish books with crochet patterns when I was little.
I really love this! I'd love to paint one of my walls with geometric shapes but I just worry I'll get sick of it in a couple of months :/
The geometric shapes trend has been happening for long enough to be tired at this point. I liked the look enough but it's ready to be shelved along with the keep calm poster. It's just to ubiquitous to feel genuine enough for a home (my home at least)
For me it is not a trend at all it is just a continuation of the images I grew up with. Maybe for some this is a novelty thing but for me it is legacy.
