This past weekend, we got a chance to check out Trent Hultgren's apartment in Venice just as he's packing up to move to Austin. It's no wonder he was a contestant on Design Star. His seriously minuscule home was a cornucopia of ideas on how to use space effectively.
Some ideas you might want to carry over into your own home:
- Don't be afraid to put the bed front and center.
- One color decorating means the background recedes and the accessories, whether objects or color, take precedence. Here, white is the background and turquoise is the accent. Instead of noticing how small the space is, your eye keeps darting around from turquoise object to turquoise object, making the room feel bigger.
- Living near the ocean, Trent used that as his theme. The space is casual and beachy, more ship interior than studio apartment. Glass jars filled with shells, sand and rocks decorate the space and the color scheme is definitely sea worthy.
- Even a small corner can be used to create an inviting space.
