yeah i hate the color options. Maybe if its popular they'll expand the color line. White would be my preference, even baby blue.

this isn't all that new... and it's been blogged on AT before! but that said, it is pretty spiffy!

I liked it in the catalog, but cooled off when I saw it in person. The color is too much and it's enormous (for NYC apartment living anyway). In the end, for $349 plus shipping and the pain of assembly, I'd rather wait to buy a vintage modern piece off of Craigslist.

I am actually glad to see your photo of it... the drawers look off and it looks like something someone put together... which is Ikea, I know. From the other photos, it looked a lot cooler. I would love to see one in in an unfinished wood.

hmm this seemed interesting at first glance, but the more i see it the more it just seems like a crappy mashup of modern credenza top meets flimsy neo-Victorian base. and the harsh ocher makes it seem like a plaintive yelp for attention. i think it's meant to compliment their flimsy hemnes 4 poster, (from a color standpoint anyway) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49842778

I kind of like it, but the ill-fitting drawers and doors illustrate the problem I have with IKEA furniture. I don't mind cheap if it didn't look cheap.

The styling of this is just horrid. What happened to Ikea's clean, simple lines?

I think this is aimed at the Urban Outfitters furniture crowd. It reminds me of a Pontiac - kinda cool in the showroom - then when you get it home....

I like the way it looks (minus the canary yellow) and the length would be fine for our house, but the problem I have with it is that it just doesn't look very sturdy. I can picture the top caving in or the drawers getting stuck a lot. I like Ikea a lot and we have quite a few pieces from them in our home, but this looks like a flimsy piece of furniture for over 300 dollars.

Love the base/legs, but if you've seen any of the Trollsta items in person, they're much less attractive. Cheap particleboard (even by their standards) ruins what could have been some really interesting items. Oh, and the usual IKEA sag would most likely happen with these units too. That being said, the most succesful of the 3 items I've seen so far in this range (side table, sideboard, and a taller tv cabinet) would be the tv cabinet. And even then I'd probably go to great lengths to hack it in some way to hide the truly horrendous particleboard.

I guess I'll be the odd one out. I love it and bought it this weekend. It'll go great with my chair from Urban Outfitters. ;) Oh, and I love the yellow. It was the deciding factor on buying it. More furniture should come in bright colors!

If you have seen this in person....how heavy of a tv do you think that it will support? This piece is exactly what I have been looking for, for my bedroom!

Ha! I Own it...I love, love it. Its the only colored thing in my house basically and it has a lot of white things on it to take the harshness of the yellow away from it. I didn't think it seemed cheap, when I put it together it weighed about 2000 lbs. The cabinets are big enough to store all of my electronics and even my Wii Fit.

It will support a car. I have a GIANT tv on it

I bought it a couple of weeks ago in black and I absolutely love it. It took forever to put together, but it looks fantastic in my apartment. I have a 46 inch lcd tv on it and it's supported well. I didn't install the door on the middle cabinet so that I could have access to cable box and dvd player, and it really looks great. So far, the drawers slide well & click perfectly! I also mounted my modem & all the wires on the back, and was able to attach the power strip, etc, using screws to the particle board, where it meets the "walls" inside the cabinets for support. There are holes for the wires inside! We'll see how it lasts...

I blogged about this a while back- the design is not too crazy if put in an historical context. In other words, it was not just pulled out of thin air.

I saw this one at our local IKEA and it didn't look this bad. One must remember that anything on IKEA's showroom floor is subject to bumps with shopping carts and strollers, kicks from countless kids, abuse from overzealous shoppers, etc. Treatment that these pieces likely would never receive in someone's home.

I remember on a trip to IKEA not that long ago, some guy actually scratching away the finish on a floor model to see what was under it.

I'm thinking about getting one to use as a sofa table and painting it white to update a Duncan Phyfe sofa.
