Q: Hi, I just moved into a new apartment in New York and like all rentals, it lacks character. I really want to paint my door neon pink and have been doing some research but haven't been able to find paint in a true neon pink. And I mean obnoxious pink. Any suggestions?

Try acrylic craft paint instead of wall paint.

Spray paint is available in neon colors.
I agree with the suggestion of spray paint. Krylon has fluorescent pink spray paint which is retina-searingly bright.
I used it on a canvas and were originally planning to make most of it grey with only pops of neon pink, but after putting the all-pink canvas on the wall it's stayed that way and I love it in all of its fabulous obnoxiousness!
Artist colors or mural paints. These can be way more saturated than regular house paints, and more fun to work with. If you do artist colors, I recommend varnishing over it for a layer of protection as well.
Try a scenic paint company, ie one that produces colours for film, TV & theatre use. I live in the UK I get my fluoro paint colours from Bristol Paints. (http://www.bristolpaint.com/p/h/Home//21/) My banister is painted with their fluorescent pink & it's INCREDIBLY BRIGHT.
why would you want to paint your door a color you describe as 'obnoxious'? Why not choose a strong vibrant color you don't find obnoxious?
Not judging - I just don't understand.
Much respect for this very bold question--would love to see the result!
Try http://www.wildfirefx.com. They have a hot pink Visible Luminescent Paint that is bright under normal light but will also glow under UV light if you want to go that route.

"Obnoxious" might be her way of describing the intensity of the color, so that people don't underestimate how bright she really wants. I had a friend in college who had a skirt we called "the obnoxiously pink skirt," but we all loved it - it was just to denote that the color was really, mind-blowingly intense.

pricey, but the real deal.
I insist you post a photo of this after it is done. I would love to see the results!
How does your landlord feel about you painting the door of your rental an "obnoxious" color?
Wait -- she's saying "all rentals lack character"? And painting a door "obnoxious pink" is going to make her apartment the only one with any character?
We should demand that all doors be painted obnoxious pink, so they'll have character. Or, alternatively, we should point out that flashy excess is not the same thing as character.
