There's a lot happening on Halle and Jeff's shelves, and it all works beautifully. Let's break down just what is going on here and how you can steal some of their ideas and get your own sexy shelving.

They use color

Halle and Jeff chose to paint the inside of their built-ins for a nice contrast but there are plenty of other ways to use color on your shelves, whether it's an all over bright like this turquoise below or a kicked up highlight.

They add art

Not only are there frames sitting on the shelves, Halle and Jeff also hung art from their shelves. It's a great way to provide a focus point when there's so much going on.

They add texture with objects that aren't books

Halle and Jeff's shelves include so many elements that are a visual change from the usual books. See how they added a lit candle, a small plaster bust and even a plant? Tons of interesting texture. You can do the same. Almost anything can be layered in amongst your books. Rule of thumb: if you'd display it in your home, you can throw it up on your bookshelf.

All ready to get some sexy? Go for it.
