When you hear the word toolbox, you don't exactly think of jewelry storage. Even if you did, you probably weren't thinking about hanging it on the wall — on it's side no less. That's exactly what happened here and I think I'm in love...
We checked in over at Design*Sponge where Kim, a jewelry designer has recently made this great storage solution from an old tool box. Now you might not make your own jewelry, but we can certainly see this idea working for storage of many of your tiny bits and bobs.
You could use small boxes or even wire mesh inserts (try attaching a loop of fabric to them so they remove easily) to hold smaller things like earrings. For those that don't have a need to store jewelry in this manner, try using it in your home office to hold all those little things like stamps, paperclips and staple removers. It's a creative way to put a simple wooden tool box to use.
Check out more on this transformation and the method that was used to hang it on the wall over at Design*Sponge.

Nomade Express Slee...
Love it! I have a shallow metal one which was a tray in the top of a toolbox in its former life. It's now mounted on the kitchen wall having transformed into a magnetic spice rack..
adding: the handle is home to a cute tea towel & a ring of vintage measuring spoons :)
What a cute idea!
This idea is a great find.
I've got two very similar to the one pictured. 'Farmer's totes' is what the antique/junk store called them. I used them for CD storage and what-not shelves. Right now they're stacked in the corner awaiting Craigs list. They've been useful through the years but no longer go with my decor. Great idea and it's neat to see something that I've been using for years featured!
We mounted an old long tool box with a hinged lid on the wall like that in our foyer, and use it as a landing strip. A break chain let the top open like a drop leaf desk.
that is super brilliant!!!!
genius!
It's "on its side," not "on it's side."
That's actually really strange and beautiful.
Nice idea as it clears off the desktop.
looks great
I just did something similar! I don't have pierced ears, so a lot of jewelry storage solutions that are out there simply don't fit with the items I own. So I painted an old wine storage box and mounted it on the wall!
I was so proud of how pretty it looks with all my jewelry on it (free art!) that I had to write a blog post about it.
This one speaks to me, too! Can't go wrong with showing off necklaces when you're not wearing them as well as when you are. Nicely done!
Ick! I am really getting tired of seeing people hang their jewelry on the wall. Besides the fact that it's just more to collect dust, I think it's tacky. I much prefer jewelry boxes hidden away somewhere. I use the Portofino sectioned, lined boxes from Container Store that work really well for this. They used to have a version of the watch box that had four sections in each box. I use one for necklaces (lay them flat) and another for everything else. The little sections are perfect for rings, earring, and bracelets. I don't like my jewelry displayed openly.
