I'm definitely in the camp that believes music for kids should be good enough that adults want to listen to it too. Case in point, Laura Veirs' terrific new album of folk tunes for children.
Inspired by the birth of their son, Veirs and her husband Tucker Martine put together a collection of time-tested, old-time songs from artists like Jimmy Rodgers, Woody Guthrie, and Peggy Seeger. With the enlisted help of such fellow musicians as Jim James of My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists' Colin Meloy, Bela Fleck, Basia Bulat, and Veirs' own sugary voice, Tumble Bee makes these folk classics sound unique and fresh while embodying a rich history of children's music that goes back over a hundred years.
Good stuff. My daughter keeps pressing her closed fingertips together ("more, more") at the end of each song.
