Although not every doodle your child makes begs to be immortalized, we're excited about a new company, Carpetzz, that will turn any drawing into a rug. Um, cool!
Looking at the examples above, we're impressed by how well and true Carpetzz is able to translate a paper rendering into a rug. Imagine your child's delight when presented with one of their own masterpieces to have in their room. These would make a unique gift for a grandparent or other hard to buy for relative and we think a family portrait rug made by your child would be incredible in a front hall welcoming guests (and make a special family keepsake).
A bit about the company in their own words: We are a small company based in the region of Bayern in Germany. Work ethic is crucial for us. We are proud to confirm that our carpets are certified by the Rugmark Foundation as free of child labor. At carpetzz.com we strive for the best quality and therefore only work with the best material: 100% New Zealand wool, that will be tufted by hand in the elaborate process of transforming your design into a carpet. This work could not possibly be done by a machine. For the backside we use resistant fabric that allows the carpet to breathe and is easy to clean.
Carpetzz will ship worldwide. They cost 150€ per square meter ($18/sq. foot) and you can choose different sizes and pile heights. Those above are about 31"x31" (80cm sq) and cost 96€. One idea we had was to make a few the same size as Flor tiles and intersperse them.
If you live in Europe, your child (ages 4-12) can enter a drawing (before Sept. 30th) in Carpetzz's Children's Drawing Contest for a chance to win a personalized rug.
