A few months ago we showed off an inexpensive source for front-facing bookshelves. It's a smart repurposing of an IKEA item, but maybe too plain for your taste. This mom took the style up a notch and there's not even a drop of paint involved. So what did she use?
Flickr member supergail has been busy dressing up these IKEA spice rack shelves with decorative Japanese washi tape. You know you've been looking for the perfect excuse to pick some up (or more of it even) and this is a great project to use it on.
Make sure you click to see what they look like up on the wall. It's a soft and pretty look that makes something ordinary rather special.

Nomade Express Slee...
Definitely doing this. Another nursery project to add to my list.
I don't have IKEA in my area. Do you know of another store that sells something similar?
I'm painting the ones we bought for our son's room. In fact, I put a thin coat of primer on them yesterday. They'll be super cute once they match his room better!
Love it. I (who has no crafty skills) can tackle this!
@nikkirmz, I bought similar looking units from Target a while back, if you have one of them near you. If I remember correctly, they only came in white.
