When your baby outgrows clothes and furniture, sometimes it's hard to find a way to repurpose it. There's always the option of giving it away to friends and family or donating it. The problem with that is — what if you decide to have another baby? Creative (and temporary) reuses are hard to come by and we're certainly glad we stumbled upon this crib turned work bench!

Caz from, A Little Learning For Two, created this fantastic work bench from an unused crib. The best part about it, is that she can easily turn it back into a crib should she find a use for it in that way again. The second best part of this project is that it cost her next to nothing.
First, the crib had a removable side door so she was able to easily remove it to start the project. She used thick sheets of MDF to secure the mattress base and painted it with fun chalkboard paint. Using stick on hooks from the local store, she created ample space to hang scissors, paper — you name it! An old spice rack was painted white and used for well — anything the kids want it to be used for.

this is a great idea- especially since the new crib rules have rendered most of the cribs in use today un-resaleable/donateable, etc.
Tis is pretty cool...I'd LOVE other ideas on how to repurpose old drop side cribs. My son is just transistioning out of his and I hate to just throw it away since it can't be donated or sold.
This is awesome- love it!
I love this one - wonderful idea!
BRILLIANT!
Now that is awesome use for an old crib. Well done!
This is brilliant. I kept our old crib around taking up space for 9 months, never able to come up with a good re-use project. I would have TOTALLY done this had I thought of it. I'm so sad!
THIS IS EPIC!!!!!
probably one of the best ideas I've seen on this site! Now I almost hope my friend decides against taking our old crib :)
EPIC!!!
I think this looks like an old crib turned into a worktable, just saying...
It would look better with the sides removed or cut down all around and the slats converted into a hanging storage piece.
I guess it does sort of still have that old crib look, but I still think it's an amazing and very functional reuse.
Our family loves to re-use items in different ways, and I love this desk. It would be cool if the sides could drop down for a better aesthetic. But kids love that type of cocoon-like space. Nice idea.

i love the idea, but what i love more is that rug! is that astroturf???
Thankyou AT for posting our cot conversion, our girls were very excited to see it this morning!
JudiAU - I agree with you, I'd have loved to have cut the sides down! Especially the arched bits on top. We wanted to keep it functional though in case we needed it again (we're in Australia, so no laws regarding drop side cots luckily).
peglegparadiddle - Thankyou, and yes it is artificial turf :-)
This is simply A W E S O M E !!!
Great reuse. I like that you kept it reversible. You never know... :o)
Great idea!! I know what I'll be doing once we are done with our cribs... ;-)
very cute and great job repurposing. I do agree a bit more could be done in terms of making it look a bit less like a crib by taking the sides off somehow.
Oh, yes. This is 100% great, for all the reasons listed above.
Hey, Caz, do you have any ideas for reusing baby's old carseat and snap-in base(s)? It is not donate-able or resellable, because it is more than four years old. And they don't make a very good wine chilling bucket because of the holes in the bottom. C'mon, you gotta have an idea for me, oh please? :)
@judiAu my thought exactly!! looks like a crib you can't donate turned into a workbench.
I do like the astroturf.
I like that they are recycling an unused piece of furniture...
but this still just looks like a used crib.
Love it! Then you can use the extra drop side as a quilt rack! http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/use-a-crib-siderail-to-display-quilts-152755
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it looks like a crib turned into a desk! But it's BRILLIANT!!!!!!!
What great idea! They probably love that it feels like there own little nook.
Years ago I turned a pair of cribs for twins into their toddler beds since they did not have that design option at the time. I used the carved, curved ends as their new headboards by drilling holes at the bottom to be bolted to the bed frames. Then used a cut down version of the rails as the divider between the beds. The design took the children many years to outgrow. By then they were moving & each child would have their own room with new beds. If you really insoected, you could detect that they used to be cribs.... but who does that?
I tried this and my son loves the result! His treasured cot is now a coveted desk!
