Before you ditch those beat-up dining chairs with the broken seats, consider turning them into a bench! Here are four great DIY repurposing projects in which old chairs (already owned or purchased at a thrift store) have been upcycled into charming — and functional! — benches.
1. This gorgeous DIY bench is from Country Living, where you can find instructions on how a stylish and unique bench was made out of three beat-up old dining chairs with broken seats (found for $18 each at a flea market).
2. Check out the DIY wizardry at Fro Frugal , where they turned old (but not valuable) captain's chairs into a bench for less than $40.
3. Gail at My Repurposed Life succeeded — after a few failed attempts — to create this cool bench out of two old chairs.
4. A more traditional cottage bench made from two chairs. From An Oregon Cottage.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I am continually amazed at people's imagination! I love all of them with the exception of the 1st one. It seems as though they have some kind of 'divider' between them that may be uncomfortable if you have a much larger 'winter-coat' than most.
My favorite would be the 3rd one.
I love the third one as well!
The first one bothers my eyes, but I really love the others. The last one is my favorite. Now I want to do this.
This idea always seems so silly to me and yet I don't dislike any of these.
I really don't like the first one. It looks like three chairs with a board on it. Not at all cohesive. The other three are beautiful. #2 especially has nice lines.
Funny that most of us don't like the first one! I don't either. Seems rickety or something. Can't quite put my finger on it- which means I'd better not put my butt on it either! But the other three?! Wow, great ideas & look great. The third is probably my favorite, but the fourth one looks awesome, too! Next time I'm at the thrift store & I begin to pass up those cheap hardback chairs, maybe I'll reconsider & try something like this!
