This weekend, while we were out shopping for some lighter spring clothes, we saw an interesting sign outside of the Gap. It said, essentially, "bring in any old piece of denim and we'll give you 30% off a new pair of jeans." We figured they were recycling the old denim, but we didn't know how.
As it turns out, the Gap has partnered with Cotton Inc. which runs a program that recycles old denim into UltraTouch Natural Cotton Fiber Insulation.
So, between now and March 14, you can drop your old denim off at any participating Gap (as part of their "Cotton. From Blue to Green" program) get that 30% discount and know that your old jeans are going to be turned into insulation that will be used in communities in need.
We're rounding up a few old pairs right now.

This sounds awesome! I have a question about it though. I read the ToS and it says that payment must be made with a Gap credit card (or Old Navy, Banana Republic, etc.) to receive a 35% discount. But the advertised discount is 30%. Does this mean using the store credit card gives you an additional 5% discount? I just want to make sure it doesn't mean you have to pay with their card in order to receive any discount at all. Has anyone gone and tried out this promotion, or does anyone know what the case is?
will they take our jeans even if we do not buy one?
Yes and yes!!!
I work at Gap, ANYONE who brings in jeans will receive 30% off ANY full price denim item (shirts, dresses, skirts, jackets, and jeans). You save the additional 5% if you use your store credit card, but you definitely don't have to use it.
Also, feel free to bring in your denim and not buy anything, we have a coupon that you can use at a later date or not use at all.
Thanks so much for the quick and informative reply emmysb! I've been wanting a nice new pair of jeans lately, and lamenting how I already have too many pairs of jeans I don't care for anymore.. this is the perfect solution! Looks like a shopping trip is in order =)
It's so great to see a company like Gap doing something like this!
this is such a brilliant and ambitious idea by the gap. imagine if other places did this too...
trade in your old car and get a discount on your next one...oh wait, the cash for clunkers program!
bring in your old appliance and get a new one for half off
give us your dinner leftovers and we'll...well maybe not for everything...
Couldn't be a more perfect time...I was just saying I need new jeans, might just have to raid the hubs closet too.
Just went to the Gap yesterday and took advantage of this deal! I brought in a pair of jeans that were so tight in the waist that I never wore them. When I walked in with my jeans, one of the clerks immediately recognized that I "had denim", directed me to the denim drop-off box, no questions asked, and I happily tried on and bought my new pair of Ultra Skinny jeans! =) Couldn't be more pleased. Thanks Re-Nest for posting about this, I would have never known otherwise!
