We're wondering: would dashes of turquoise (Pantone's 2010 color) work in our home? Yes, it's trendy, but that's part of the fun of decorating — playing with the trends and finding what works for a time and what works for a lifetime.
Our decorating scheme is currently a base of neutrals (taupe, white, cream, brown, black, white), with pops of orange and a few accent blues. So turquoise might work, especially in the summer.

Ugh, that recamier is TO DIE FOR.
I am wondering how trendy is defined in this case.....is it trendy because it is popular or because of Pantone or for some other reason. If it is trendy because it is well liked then gray and other neutrals would also be trendy and I know that is not the case. Would that then make other popular item like mid century furniture trendy? Just thinking out loud
I have that pillow in Photo #1. Our sofas are moss green and we also have some pops of orange - I love the way teal looks with these colors.
I do like the teal and turquoise on more "exotic" accents at my house; I have an old prayer rug on an ottoman that is mostly teal and a cloisonne vase that is mostly turquoise nearby. it's a great accent color with a lot of different styles and color schemes
Love this range of colors.
I collect vintage Bitossi "Rimini Blu" by Flavia - various pieces are usually available on eBay although the company also produces a wide variety of new items in their workshops located outside Florence:

Cute FLOR in turquoise, clearance-priced at $5.99 a tile.
@luvcolor - neutrals will always be in style because they are so adaptable and appeal to the broadest range of people. this particular color has been seen a lot in fashion and housewares lately but i doubt we'll see too much of it next year.
Here's a pouf like the John Derian for $50. The embroidered design on the top may be slightly different, but that's it.
After long lusting for the Derian, I got the black pouf with fushia stitching from this eBay store. Couldn't be more thrilled with it. The leather is thick, high quality and the craftmanship is impeccable. And way, way more in my price range.

@jick - I actually think that neutrals go in and out of style too. For example, chocolate brown to me looks a bit passe now - and as lovely as gray is, it's so ubiquitous these days I don't see how it can not seem dated in a few years. Neutrals are definitely a safer bet than bright colors, in terms of shelf life - but I think we should all just ignore the trends and go with the colors that move us.
Well said, @Emily the Cat: go with the colors that move us. Inspiration is a personal thing after all. I like turq for summer beach houses more than for city pads.
i love these colors and have been trying to locate accent objects like these for my living room... we have a green-gold sofa and dark blue armchairs, so turquoise and yellow-green accents really make everything pop.
have to disagree with those who prefer neutrals or singluar colors above--it's all about moderation and accent vs. dominance. i don't think i'd want an aquamarine couch, but a turquoise pouf with a dark rug & chair looks quite fresh.
one tip: the fu dogs can be had on eBay for about $45.

I love turquoise! I'm with luvcolor - what defines a trend? Who defines a trend? I've loved turquoise pretty much all my life. I wear the colour all the time. My kitchen is white, grey, turquoise and green. I'm about to do a wall in my bedroom turquoise, and it has nothing to do with trends - I found a can of mistint for $9 and I fell in love. Does this mean my home is going to look old and tired and dated when the colour falls out of favour?
I have a turquoise davenport in my office. I got it for $30 on craigslist and had it recovered in dupioni silk for $200 about 5 years ago. I never thought this color would be "in". I was afraid silk might not be so durable... but it's held up fabulously to cats and daylight. I accent it with coral red have white drapes. I'm considering painting the walls one of those perfect shades of grey to really bring the room together.
I really don't see how a color can be a trend. But that aside, turquoise could be fine if in small enough doses. I can see pillows or a vase. Foo dogs, though, don't look good in any color.
I have used turquoise and teal as accent colors for quite some time. I never get tired of them. They're blues. Who doesn't like blues?
But then again, I also use chocolate brown. So, I'm ok with passe. As long as I like it.
@stinkypants, Thanks for the tip!!! I ::heart:: these poufs. Next paycheck, one will be mine. I've been wishing for an ottoman and this will be perfect.

I LOVE turquoise and use it as much as possible in our no-painting apartment. I really do not pay any attention to trends, but just go with what I love. We used burnt orange, teal and brown in our living room: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3358289&l=5bad16ffdf&id=504891536
@stinkypants, pouf is ordered and in the mail. Thanks for the tip! I can't wait for it to get here!
If you are looking to use teal/turquoise in a piece of furniture, it will make a beautifully bold statement; however Turquoise furniture such as ottomans, chairs, chaises, sofas, and headboards can be harder to find than one may think, even after searching the web and not wanting to spend a small fortune. Since turquoise is the color of the year and is also my favorite color I thought I would make a comment for others like myself.
I have been working with a custom furniture designer in the UK. Her name is Elaine and her company is Obama Catering Furniture. I just adore the color turquoise and initially contacted her to have a turquoise chaise made. I had such a hard time finding anything like that in the US. This month I had her make me a turquoise and chocolate armless chair. Her furniture is BEAUTIFUL!! She can use any fabric and style imaginable and her prices are super reasonable even for shipping overseas.
If anyone is interested in seeing pics of her furniture or would like to contact her please shoot me an email at superk1216@yahoo.com.
