Turquoise has received a fair amount of buzz in the last few years, and even more in 2010 with its new honor as Pantone's color of the year. While I think almost any room could stand to have a little turquoise, I like it best in the kitchen where it packs an upbeat punch, but rarely crosses into the realm of garish under artificial light.

So many vibrant colors&; lime and apple green, sunny yellow, fire truck red— can look lovely during the day, but sickly or dingy under the glare of the all too common bad overhead kitchen lighting. Turquoise, at least in my experience, has seemed to escape that fate. Another perk is its amiable relationship with most other colors. It looks great with greens, browns, yellow, reds, and— as evidenced here— it looks especially wonderful with black, white, and wood tones, which means that it's easy to use in a kitchen with other elements that can't be changed.
