Do you keep a television or audio gear in your kitchen? Many cooks like to have a good audio system so they can listen to music or NPR, and some cooks even like to have a television set in the kitchen too. But these two award-winning kitchens go way beyond simple systems and integrate high-end ideas into showpiece kitchens, open and ready for entertaining. One of them integrates the bar, too, in a really clever way.
These two kitchens were chosen as Home of the Year award winners for 2008 by Electronic House, and it was largely due to their use of electronics and technology in the kitchen. That use of electronic technology isn't necessarily connected with cooking, though; it's more about bringing an audio and visual experience into these open kitchens.
We especially liked the second-place winner, which made use of an unsightly pillar in the middle of the dining area, and turned it into a circular bar with an adjustable TV screen attached.
The first-place winner has a TV console that raises and lowers automatically from a sideboard, as well as a host of electronic functionality attached to lighting, windowshades, and other atmosphere settings around the kitchen.
