We're thoroughly enjoying our summer nights in L.A., when the weather dips down low enough to venture outside and hang with friends under a strand of twinkling lights. This was the scene for us this past Friday over cold drinks and a grouping of patio chairs pushed together. And while the setting was intimate, our hostess provided ample spots to set our drinks...
A lovely vintage TV tray acted as the group's table and makeshift bar. The tray was the perfect size and allowed us to sit in a cozy circle. Plus, it folds up quick and easy to stow away indoors or tuck alongside the house. A TV tray could also work nicely indoors as an impromptu side table when guests visit.

A TV tray could also work NICELY indoors as an impromptu side table when guests visit.
I think my parents still have a set of the tables on the right...somewhere in the basement.
I love how light and versatile and cheap my early sixties TV tray tables featuring bikini clad women welcoming you to palm beach work as
a plant stand or impromptu extra serving or side tables.
These are cool and the style should be revived. Marimekko, you could do great things with this. So could John Derian if he could get away from the decoupage and glass thing and just design a few tray tops.
I think these are great for apartments with balconies or terraces, particularly if the building management gets upset about the style of furnishings left outside.
Set up two comfortable folding chairs, bring out the vintage TV tray and perhaps a small portable DVD player and a stool, put a pitcher of mojitos on the tray between you, and you're living large but hassle-free.
When you're finished chilling, fold it all up and put it away.
