For all you integrated technology streamliners (you know, the OCD types who must have their tech working in tandem throughout their daily lives) - yeah, we know we're probably one of those folks - well, this news is for you. With internet-enabled television sets coming around the corner in the next few months, we're finding ourselves more and more at the edge of our seats waiting for our next biggest tech fix since connecting two extra-large widescreen monitors to our laptop - TV widgets.
According to a recent survey by The Diffusion Group, nearly 80% of people, in a survey of 2,000 television consumers, are very interested in seeing apps integrated into their TVs. The favorite application people are looking forward to happen to be a widget that lets them quickly find and watch an episode of current season TV shows that they may have missed or had the desire to watch again. Yeah, we know what you're thinking, "Hey, DVRs do that for you, no?" Well, yeah, but for those forgetful type, this would be the perfect solution whenever they happen to miss recording one of their shows.
Other highlights include a weather widget, an on-demand movie app, and an interactive TV-show app to speak with other people enjoying the show with you from around the world.
One app we'd love to see someone create would be one to let us stream files from our computer to our TV wirelessly. We're well aware you can do this already via media servers and a set top box/gaming console, but another option doesn't hurt, right?
What would be an app you'd look forward to? Let us know in the comments!
