Surrounded by office buildings and condos, a bright loft space is filled with covetable items that immediately invite you to explore. From boho chic throws and tailored sofas to industrial light fixtures and artisan crafts, the inventory is carefully curated to be local, sustainable, and ethical.
Owners Roisin Giese and Miggy Mason named their store for the 12 members and close friends that were the interior design program at Cornell University, but the 12 is significant in another way. The duo only chooses products that fit 6 of their 12 People and Planet Principles, which includes the usual dogma of being local, locally sourced, organic, biodegradable, renewable, et cetera — but also includes being a values-driven company with fair-trade policies. These ladies don't just talk the talk, either. The store itself and their interior design services are run by these 12 tenets as well. But let's talk about the goods! Roisin & Miggy have impeccable taste. From the geometric upholstered chair to the blue-tinted light fixtures, everything is engaging and different, never boring. Twelve Chairs feels like shopping estate sales, Anthropologie and artists' open studios all at once. You could spend hours discovering new things in their sunny, happy space. But knowing you're making a purchase with principles, that's something to smile about.
