Twisty Stool

Do the twist. We've been noticing this "Twist stool" in several shelter mags lately. They all seem to be made of Monkeypod wood, which is a sustainable material that has a warm honey brown to rich reddish brown color, and is kiln dried. The version above is from Viva Terra, where it goes for $195- $349. We love how it's carved from a single piece, and the instant character it adds. There's another version from Garnet Hill, which goes for $224. Z Gallerie also has a version made of Acacia wood, which goes for $119.95. What do you guys think of the "Twisty" stool. Would you have one in your home?

What a great comparison, proportion is everything! I love the Viva Terra version, and would have it in my home, but the other two seem clunky. Thanks for posting this.

Nice! Bookmarked it for a possible purchase. I like the Viva Terra version. Reminds me of stuff my parents had around the house in the 70's. This is a good piece for making up tall tales...like you found it at some hidden thrift store or it's a piece you got from a crazy uncle...wait that's what I am!

I've had the Viva Terra one boookmarked for a few days - I love it. Clean, interesting, organic design, and quality material.

Oh, I fell in love with the one from Viva Terra a wee bit ago (not JUST because we share the same name... teehee), it's a beautiful, functional, timeless design.

i like it. i think the viva terra has the best flow, the other two dont look as finished as this one does.

I have the Garnet Hill version and I love it - it's a lighter wood than others I have seen. Just know that you need to use wood oil on it and that cracks will appear. I actually originally ordered two of these and the second one was very cracked.

I love the way it looks so different on either side - the thicker twist on two sides and a thinner wood with more peek-a-boo room on the opposite two sides. I also like the proportion of the thickness of the top portion in the Garnet Hill version.

Oh, thanks so much! I had seen this in an issue of Domino mag some time ago, meant to order one, and didn't. Then I just assumed that it would be no longer available--but utrns out there's actually 3 places to get one! whoo-hoo! I'm all over the Z Gallerie one, as soon as it's back in stock...

has anyone bought anything from viva terra? they have very cool looking coffee table made out of reclaimed railroad ties. sounds great, but the images on the site are not very helpful.

I'm pretty sure there's a store on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn that sells this stool... somewhere on the stretch between Hoyt and Nevins.

I just got the Z-Gallerie version at Homegoods/TJ Maxx and it looks much nicer than the photo! I think Viva Terra has a good art director!
