Ball Fan
Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting two friends who are in the final stages of a total renovation of their weekend home. It has been a long, long process, but now the final, beautiful pieces are being installed. There's a lot of cool stuff (I will probably be able to blog their house for months), but the elements that stood out this past weekend were their new ceiling fans...

Altus Fan
I have seen a lot of ceiling fans and most look like the ones you'd expect to find at Home Depot or Lowes: designed for the 19th century (slightly antique) or garishly modern (slightly Vegas). These are neither. With a clean, white exterior and simple modern shapes, they didn't attract my notice when I walked into the room.
I asked where they were from and was pleasantly surprised, Ron Rezek's Modern Fan Company. I thought I knew his fans well, but had never seen them in white with these thinner, less ostentatious rods. So, here's the tip: The Modern Fan Company is a great resource for ceiling fans, only don't choose the standard brushed metal or the fans with the wide mounting rod. Go white with the thin rods and soften the whole look so they sit back quietly and impress your guests later.

function great.
And by that I meant... These are great, both functionally and aesthetically, We've used them on a couple projects and were happy with the results.
how are they price-wise?
They're a bit more than regular fans ($275 or so for the ball fan) and more if you add lighting. But I love mine. Super quiet and energy efficient.
this is another fan i've been looking at:
http://www.lampsplus.com/products/s_Contemporary-Ceiling-Fans/86879/
it's on sale at lamps plus til mid july. i think it would look good with some mid century pieces.
here's a link to the 54" one

I've never cared for lights in ceiling fans.
Trying that second link again...

Guess it isn't going to work. Looks fine in preview, but....
If interested, search for "Hunter 52 In. Perspective Ceiling Fan."
There must be more attractive ceiling fans out there.
