In the Be Your Own Professional Organizer comment thread, Gbear shared two simple steps to reducing the amount of paper that comes into our homes each day (week, month, year!). If you are trying to have a "lighter" life at home in 2014, both are worth the small time investment...

I have significantly cut down on mail by:

1. signing up for electronic mail for bills
2. Opting out of 'soft offers' from credit card companies//etc. all that junk mail-there is a national list that you sign up with and your name will be taken off for several years

Now I get one piece of mail maybe once a week, and I open it immediately, recycle the envelopes, and tear up the rest for privacy.

More info on the national list can be found here: Stopping Unsolicited Mail

Thanks, Gbear!
