We love seeing homes where kids' artwork is framed and given a place of honor on the wall, but then there is that seemingly daily artwork that accumulates. Heidi, a "die hard budget decorator" came up with two solutions for displaying her children's artwork on a rotating basis. The first, shown above, was to paint and hang magnetic cookie sheets on the wall. Then she decided to switch it up…

Now she's painted the wall with undercoats of magnetic paint covered with stylish stripes making the entire wall fair game for hanging artwork, bills or mail. She notes that it's been a great way to avoid cluttering up her counters.

I love the cookie sheet idea! In a kitchen with stainless steel appliances, just leaving the metal would look great too.
We tried the magnetic paint under chalkboard paint in our kitchen, but nothing with any weight will stick. We followed the directions (3 coats?) but it doesn't work. Any advice on this?
Looks like they just moved the clutter from the counter to the wall. :-(
I really like the stripes and the idea of giving the kids a whole wall for their creations! I wouldn't call it clutter, I'd call it encouragement.
I've also had poor luck with the magnetic paint though.
I'm always looking for fun ways to display my kids artwork...I love this!

I just use a huge magnetic white board and magnets to hold up drawings and paintings. Works great. Oh, and we use dry erase markers on it of course.
Maybe it looks like clutter to some people, but at least the "clutter" is contained to a specific space, and it's not that different from a vision board or whatever you use at work for inspiration. I dislike clutter just like anyone, but it's also my kid's home, not just mine, and there should be a place for his things and art!
