Like the look of walls of books? Or do you think it looks cluttered? This Netherlands apartment gets to have both:

Designed by X+L, the shelves are directional. From one way, angled shelves hold books that are in full view. From the other direction, the angled wood sides of the shelves create a semi-solid surface. It's a genius idea for small apartments, creating a "library" on one side of a room that's not visible from the other side of the room.

Shaw's Original Fir...
why wouldn't you want to see the books?
I like it!
I don't get why you wouldn't want to see books, either, but I think it's a neat design element.
Lovely!
I look at books all day long, both at home and at work. I love to be surrounded by books. I don't think having a library creates clutter at all.
My bookshelves never look as neat as any shown here on AT, and so I, for one, totally understand why it might be an advantage to hide the (messy) treasure. It also might make the library area feel a bit more special (especially if I could keep my bookshelves neat).
I would find it annoying not to see my books from everywhere in the room. That's what bookshelves are for.
Best of both worlds!
Beautiful
This would be a great solution to keep direct sun off the book spines, yet have them in bright rooms. You could position the books to angle away from the windows; the opposite of how they did it.
i saw a building of the same design, from one side just walls, but another side with windows...not sure about this design with book shelf.
As an architectural element to separate a room, maybe. But mounted flat against the wall as shown really does nothing for me.
This could be a great way to store a wall of CDs
Being a fan of minimalism, I love it!!
I do agree with RocketScientist - it would look even cooler if it were away from the wall and used as a room divider.
i was thinking about doing something like this with my 4x4 expedit. i planned on painting only the bottom and one side of the cubes a green and the rest of the shelf dark mocha. from one side it would look two tone but from a different angle it wouldn't be so distracting...thoughts?
i like to see my books. and i want others to see my books. it makes me feel morally superior.
