So we can admit, we've never paid that much attention to Ty Pennington and had certain...doubts about his shop Art*Design*Home*Design opening on Abbot Kinney. But those doubts basically vanished once we stepped into the refurbished bungalow. The man knows his audience.

The store fits right into Abbott Kinney: a high-end hip housewares store with all the right modern influences. Bold patterns on the beds and walls set the tone for the space and as we walked through the rooms it felt like being in a really hip hotel. A little mainstream, a little posh, but cool.

We coveted all the ceramic tableware that came in bright reds and blues and were even a little embarrassed to be so into it.

Did we mention that there were fancy people like Halle Berry at the opening?

This was our favorite room: the green room. We would never go so bold with both the walls and the bed but we could imagine incorporating something from this scene into our life at home.

We also want this wall shelving system, badly. Too bad we think it's just part of the store and not something for sale.

The website isn't quite up so your best bet is to stop by and check it out. There were large scale tables, desks, and chairs, but things weren't marked so we'll post more on the brands carried in the store when the info is available!

The space is HOT and the event was a blast!

I had NO doubt Ty's store would be a show stopper.

I am really impressed with his custom line and am excited to see that more furniture stores are being added the the AK block.

Ty always seemed like a fair designer to me albeit sometimes annoying on TV.

ADHD. I like that play on acronym. It is apropos considering his television demeanor.

With the exception of the beside table lamps I am digging the red bedroom. I will have to drop by and check it out.

I believe that I read once that he named the store ADHD as a way to bring attention to the actual disorder as well. He is very vocal about his own struggles with the disorder.... which explains why he is sometimes annoying on tv.

I too like the grooved wall treatment with shelves, and I believe it is something that can be reproduced with mdf and a table saw with a dado blade. It would take a bit of patience, an assistant, and a well thought out jig (especially for the angle cuts), but it could be done. Knowing Ty from his various apperances, that is probably exactly what he had done. I think it could work great in my dining room, to provide texture and functionability.

Wow, some cool stuff there and love, love, love the tea cups and oval saucers shown and the colors they came in were tres cool IMO.

Can't wait for the website to be up so I can really gander. Just wish I were down that way to go visit in actuality. :-)

Probably I had doubts out of ignorance. I've only caught glimpses of extreme makeover home edition and thought I had heard that he had a sears or wallmart collection so I was picturing design that would play more to the masses and not be so refined. I'm a convert now though, oh boy do I want everything in the store!

Unconstructive Criticism: Why is Ty always orange and so full of hair products? Why in the hell does ABC give such a human megaphone a megaphone? He makes me want to stick hatpins in my eardrums. He was super hot in the J Crew catalog though.

This is one of those posts where the Apartment Therapy "we" and "us" sounds extra contrived and really annoying. Is the whole site written by a couple who agrees on everything? Perhaps that's where it started? Do you all really agree on which tablecloth, room, shelving system, et. al. is your very favorite? Didya take a vote? Did you all drink the same Kool Aid? I would like to "get to know" the writers as individuals. For example, I can recognize Jonathan and Leslie W.'s individual styles a lot of the time and I like that.

Yes, I am sure you are like-minded and agree on a lot of things, but I assume you all have your own thoughts and ideas. Why are you so afraid to say "I"? Is it a policy?

I always found Ty annoying, but kinda sweet too.
However I have detested Extreme Makeover ever since they started completely bowling houses down and putting up grotesque McMansions, the average size of houses in the states is obscene. And most of the interior design was that horrendous middle-class, over-the-top suburban american yuck.

Having said that I really like the stuff in this shop, especially those little mug and saucer sets (although surprisingly chi-chi for Ty)

does anyone know what happened to ty pennington's a*d*h*d* store? i went in a couple of months ago and met drea. she showed me this very cool rug made out of t-shirt material. long story short- i want to order it now for my home but i went by the other day, and it looks like the store is now closed! i met one of their other sales managers (a man) but i can't find their business card. anyone? thanks!!

Having middle class American homes is kind of the idea of having a show dedicated to dream homes. It's kind of the official American dream.
