Name: Tyler
Location: Astoria, Queens NYC
Hello everyone at Apartment Therapy! I would love to share my most recent endeavor, Apartment Makeover 2010!. I was a finalist in the Second Annual Fall Colors Contest (Tyler's Color Fueling Station) and a LOT has changed since then…
It has been a couple of years since the contest (as well as a pretty cool HGTV episode featuring the pad) and there have been some style changes to the place. I decided to tone things down quite a bit. The avocado walls are now a calming grey and the bedroom has done a 180° in terms of style and materials. I would say I've gone from Pop Modern to Rustic/Industrial.
The white couch in the living room is gone and has made room for a beautiful wood dining table. It works great for the dinner parties and separates the small space into two different areas. The energy of the space is now much more subdued. I feel like chilling out with a glass of wine as opposed to climbing the walls.
I'd say the extrovert in me is still there and is mimicked in some of my accent pieces. The initial energy and excitement of just moving to New York has slowed down and allowed me to comfortably fall into a much calmer, happier place. Who knows though — in 3 more years I might just find my next home project to be quite different!
Thanks Tyler!

I'm loving the dining table and the bar/credenza thingy. Where are they from?
I hear you, Tyler. Whereas I once slept in a bedroom with orange balls, entertained guests in rooms painted turquoise and bright yellow, studied and read in a periwinkle space -- now the backgrounds are mostly subdued.
Nice to see another person living in Astoria on here. I really enjoyed your color palette. Very calming. Where is the clock and the storage unit next to the clock from?
Thanks and Keep up the good work!
I like this WAY better than the original colors
Very calm and relaxing look. I like it.
ooooh... I have a really hard time finding couches I really love, but I REALLY like that one! :) Perfect blend of modern but warm and cozy!
Hi Tyler! Thanks for sharing. I loved your home then and I love it now. So fascinating to see how your sense of style evolved. I adore the dining room! The window frame hung as art is awesome. Also, where did you get that credenza?
Great job.
Very lovely. I loved the original colors of the rooms, but I think that this new color scheme and arrangement of furniture works much better. I still have an "in your face" color scheme at home, but am thinking of toning it down sometime soon. Thanks for the inspiration.
I approve.
Your apartment is cute, TOO!
Ooooh I like the green and grey together! Very pretty. Reminds me of my first "real" apartment, I painted my walls a color called "absinthe mist."
I love the floors too.
I like this much better. I really like the addition of some earth tones. Though this is not to my personal taste, it looks very pulled together and well done. Very nice job!!
i think the dining table might be eq3
Where did you buy your wine rack and the wood-block clock?!
That shot of the bedroom is sublime.
The apartment looks so relaxing. Great colors.
And like m0oreen, I'd like to know the source for your wood-block clock.
The wood clock looks like the Davis clock from EQ3.
It's nice to see an actual HUMAN in these shots. :)
Loving how comfortable that couch looks.
where is the lamp from in the last photo?
I stayed in Astoria recently, LOVE IT. Your place reflects the lovely neighborhood.
I love your living room pillows. Where did you find them?
Tyler, Nice place! Are you the guy from the Verizon commercials ;)
Hey guys! Thanks for the positive feedback. The bar/credenza is a IKEA LACK bookshelf turned on its side with legs screwed in. Yes the dining table and the wood wall clock are from EQ3 and the bedroom lamp is CB2. The wine rack is from chiasso and the pillows are from CB2 and Anja Kroencke.
The cooler colors suit you MUCH better. Do you eat, sleep, digest better now I wonder???
Hi Tyler, I love your shelves above the sofa in your lounge, they are a great feature - where are they from?
