I think I might be developing a map obsession. Maps are such an elegant way to display affection for your hometown, the city where you fell in love, or an unforgettable trip. (Not to mention, maps are just flat out cool.) Next to vintage, typographic maps are my absolute favorite.
We have this awesome typographic map of San Francisco in our office-turned-mostly-playroom and I LOVE it. Best $22 we ever spent. Every time I look at it, I feel like hugging it. I feel like saying, "Thank you, Sunset. Thank you, Presidio. Thank you, thank you, Mission!" (Sung to the tune of Alanis Morrisette's 1989 pop hit "Thank U," of course.) It would be a bit weird to find myself hugging and singing to a map, but it's certainly not the oddest thing I've ever done.
These unique word weavings seem to convey so much through an exquisite display of the power of type. And the black and white typographic world map...are you kidding me? What child would not want to learn all of the countries with one hundred percent accuracy while studying that sublime expression of our planet? My current dilemma is which map to get next: London, United States, or Zurich? (I have no special affection for Zurich, but just looking at that map is like taking a trip to a faraway land of artful alphabetic awesomeness.) The black background and white type map of the United States from Etsy is also one of my favorites -- made using a Wacom tablet. Wedding gifts, anyone?

They make my head hurt to try to read!
LOL. Canada!
I have the Boston one in a deep red...love it.
Uhh i want one so bad. Anyone know a source for some Wisconsin one's that aren't uber expensive?
I love these maps too. I think they're such a cool way to remember a special vacation or trip. I am re-doing my living room and definitely have a few of these in my etsy wish-list. LOVE!
I bought my Ork Los Angeles poster, framed it and it's been in my living room for over a year! Love it. Unbeknownst to me, my brother bought the Ork Brooklyn one (where his son lives) and has his in his living room, as well!
love the canada one, but i wish the creator of it had've put the names of the cities where the cities actually are... calgary should never be sitting on top of vancouver.
Cant help myself: the Alanis song came out in 1998. Not '89.
But I totally get what you mean, I hum that often myself:)
I have the little owl design (#8) on a tee shirt from Threadless and it translates to clothing amazingly!
I have the Ork poster for DC and love it. :)
One of my fave typographical maps is http://www.etsy.com/listing/69706953/typographic-world-map so clean compared to so many others.
I NEED that world map by Vlad Studios for my giant blank dining room wall. Sadly, it doesn't appear to be for sale.
Looks like I spoke to soon: http://www.zazzle.com/typographic_world_map_poster-228632618648013514
