Bathtubs perform a fairly basic function — their design can be extremely elegant and simple or teeter into over-the-top ridiculousness with customizable upholstery, painted finishes and yes, even Swarovski crystals. Here is a collection of tubs that made us laugh and cry.
FIRST ROW
• Stone One from Aquamass — Zebra printed leather finish from the Just Animals collection
• Aquarius tub from Oceania Baths
• Jolie red glass bathtub from Regia
• Orleans Wrought Iron Tub from St Thomas Creations
• Gingko Tub by Ligne Evolution
LAST ROW
• Dulce Hydromassage Tub from Stas Doyer
• Copper Tub-E by Wild Terrain Designs
• Custom-painted Juliette Airbath from Oceania Baths
• Customized Elegance Bathtub by THG
• Teuco's Swarovski Bathtub — from Trendir "The refined, perfect surface is enhanced with the addition of these fantastic crystal clusters. They emanate an intriguing organic feel, as if they had simply grown on the surface of the bathtub like an exotic, sparkling coral. Your guests will have to look twice, drawn to the unexpected, shimmering Swarovski crystals." Yes, exactly.
Can we agree that red bathtubs are always a bad idea? Yikes!

Nomade Express Slee...
WTF at the 'Customized Elegance Bathtub by THG'. The Orleans Wrought Iron Tub isn't toooooo bad though.
Zebra printed leather! Was this designed by aliens who have never used or seen a bath tub before?
Wow, not only is that copper tub weird and inexplicable, they have one of the most hideous, dysfunctional websites I have seen in YEARS.
is the 7th one even a tub? looks more like a bucket...
Um, what's with the purple CARPET in the one photo? Who carpets their bathroom??????
I *kind* see where the zebra thing is going. It's sort of gothic and funky. You'll never be able to sell your house with it though.
As someone with chronic back issues.. that Aquarius tub looks AWESOME! Though, I'd have it facing *out* so that I could see out the window.
While I agree that some of these tubs are pretty fugly.. a bathtub isn't necessarily a decorative thing.. it's also a *tool* .. it should have good function or it's useless. It's like saying that someone's runner are ugly.. so what? do they do the JOB?
ugly and expensive!
Hmmm...yes, some of these are a little over-the-top and silly, but am I the only one who LOVES a couple of these?!
Specifically, I like the Gingko Tub and the Orleans Wrought Iron Tub... and the copper tub is beautiful, though hardly practical...
That copper shot glass of a tub is by far the winner.
i got to the purple Customized Elegance bathtub and thought, ok, that has got to be the worst one, and then i clicked to the one with the glittery barf running down the side. wow.
That THG bathtub reminds me of John Gielgud as Nerva bleeding to death in the film Caligula...
I think the glass tub would be pretty cool if it weren't red.
too much money spent by garish people with too many ideas of what is attractive. Less is more
hm. i don't mind the weird red one. but i would never put it in my house.
the worst is the aquarius ... maybe because i see tubs that basically look like this all the time on hgtv house hunting shows.
The Jolie from Regia comes in several colors and is actually quite beautiful. I especially like the opaque white and gold versions.
I like the red one but would not want it for my own. The copper one looks like it needs directions to get into it.
You're not the only one who loves some of these tubs, OM83. I want the Zebra printed leather finish (and so do my kids!) and the only thing I'd change about Aquarius (as d4kk1tt3n mentioned) is the way it faces.
The Wrought Iron is a classic and the Custom Painted is pure fun and whimsy -- sort of reminds me of one woman who (along with her children) would paint graffiti on their kitchen walls over the years. Some of the artwork remained, while much was painted over as interests and events changed and as the family itself aged and evolved -- now she's got a room full of memories that are still being made as her adult children visit and bring their own kids who contribute.
I bet one of the Real Housewives of Wherever has one of these, espesh the Bedazzled one.
"Elegance" is klassy. Looks like something that Ariel would ride in if she married Don Lino the shark instead of Prince Eric. Certainly not designed for humans, because judging by the height of the requisite gold pillow, no human could sit comfortably in that dreamy, gold-pedestalled chariot of the seas.
I kinda like the green one. And the New Orleans one, but you'd have to do that in the right room - like a plant-filled room.....which is something I'd be likely to do, only because I'm obsessed with tropicals and am planning to come back as a botanist in my next life.
The one with the crystals is creepily reminding me of that new trend, vajazzling. It just doesn't belong with naked flesh.
The website for the copper tub (Wild Terrains) made me laugh uncontrollably!! I seriously cannot stop!
Oh boy...the elegance tub is by far the worst. Who wants a clear bathtub?? With purple siding??!?
These babies are quite terrible...keep it simple!!

oh - turns out the website is a bit better in IE.
The red one looks like a giant soap dish.
Yep, these are some ugly bathtubs alright. Although I actually kinda like the wrought iron one.

i think the ceo of wild terrains needs her own feature somewhere. phd in risk management?! oh, tasmania.
mrsyow-glittery barf. amazing. I like the description of "as if they had simply grown on the surface "...because that's the look i'm going for in my bathroom.
The copper tub is getting a lot of hate. lol. I've seen very similar ones though. I think it's a japanese thing. They're tall instead of long so you can sit in it and the water comes up to your shoulders. I've actually seen some really nice ones.
Also, I love the zebra one, but the leather just won't cut.
I thought the wrought iron one could look kind of cool with a more turkish bathhouse setting, say with lots of nice tiles and exotic lamps.
The second one was ugly, but I really like all the rest, especially the sleigh bed-er um sleigh bath. I guess I have bad taste. Hmm...
Some of these I really don't like, but some of them I do!
ehalvey, no need to worry about the resale value of that house with the zebra tub, it's about to be washed away by an approaching tidal wave. Photoshop Disasters needs that image...
I was going to get on my high horse and rant about how "ugly is in the eye of the beholder", until I looked at the tubs. Yup, they're ugly.
Like many of you have posted above, I don't mind the Orleans Wrought Iron Tub, but am I the only one weirded out by glass bathtubs? I just don't like the idea of a see-through tub for some reason.
I agree with peahen, I especially like the red one (in the right setting), but then I have always been fascinated by glass bathtubs for some reason. Not in love with the purple one though, even if it is partly glass.
I don't care for them either. I don't want my husband seeing my butt pushed against the bottom/back of a glass tub.
I kind of dig the last one, maybe just a little.
a few months after i moved to this small city, a friend took me shopping at a place called Liquidation World. in the lobby was a HUGE gold open clamshell bathtub.
THAT was an ugly bathtub!
Oh, check out this photo of the CEO of the copper bath company: http://www.wildterraindesigns.com.au/index_files/Page1693.htm
Poor lady.
Stormy11, I'm glad someone else pointed that out! They've obviously installed the zebra bathroom below sea level, right on the beach (if the windows tell us anything!). It's only a matter of time before that leather (???) creation gets washed away.
I have to say, like a lot of people, that the Orleans wrought iron soaker tub looks pretty nice. I wouldn't want to have to clean it, but it looks alright for a claw foot style tub. The rest, I'm not so keen on. I want to know why the hydromassage tub has such a thick, glowy blue rim, and if the copper shot glass tub comes with instructions for how to get in to it (it also apparently can be programmed to release essential oils while you bathe, yikes!). Glass/see-through tubs completely weird me out. The last thing I want while soaking and relaxing is an idea of what my body looks like through that magnified glass-water interface (nor would I want anyone else to see me like that!).
I protest! There's nothing wrong with a leopard.....oh, wait, I see.
Carry on.
I actually liked the 4th and 6th one :)
the last one looks like it has a dead jelly fish hanging off the side...
Holy hells teeth! I almost choked when I saw the purple one!
OK the bathtubs are pretty bad but did you see the the Wild Terrain website! the CEO's hair is HILARIOUS!! Only someone with that hairdo could try to market a bathtub that is that ridiculous!!
Take a shower
I don't care how ugly the copper tub is, any tub that is SELF-CLEANING belongs in my home.
And I think the wrought iron tub is gorgeous. Would probably be a pain to clean, but it shows off quite prettily.
LOVE THE RED TUB! Would skip on the other red bath accessories. the Orleans Wrought Iron Tub is a beauty. I bet if the heading was "interesting and cool baths", the tone of the comments would be different.
The red acrylic tub is kinda cool and funky! Otherwise I agree, they're terrible and over the "tub".. ha ha ha
The copper tub looks like a giant soup pot. Something about it just evokes cannibalism and space aliens.
