Yikes! $131.50 for what looks like a wastebasket from Staples, and $79 for a hockeypuck sized piece of rubber? Methinks you could have found 1 or 2 more "low" options out there, afterall an umbrella stand isn't exactly a 100% necessary item for the home.
With all the rain we've been having in my neck of the woods, this is well-timed. I like the Ikea one the best (and not just for cost reasons), but I'm still jealous of the white ceramic one my mom picked up... somewhere.
We use a long tall blue/white decorative planter pot from a China Town shop. They're pretty easy to come by and are in the $30 range. Looks great with antique woods.
I fell in love with the first one, then remembered that I have no use for an umbrella stand. My life in a nutshell.
I made an unbrella stand by decorating the box from my stick vacuum with wrapping paper. It's the perfect size! Who knows how long this will hold up, but it seems pretty durable -- and it's easy and cheap to replace. I don't really fold wet umbrellas anyway; I leave them open to dry. I can at least conveniently store them in my tiny narrow hallway near the front door.
May I suggest The Container Store's cylinder can? http://www.containerstore.com/shop/trashRecycling/office?productId=10009993&N=70652&Nao=16
I bought one in white, and it's sleek and just the right height for my umbrellas. At $10, it's hard to beat...
May I suggest the cylinder can from The Container store? It was only $10 and looks great. The height worked perfectly...I just can't get behind spending $100 on an umbrella stand.

Wow, high prices for a simple umbrella stand! I'm just thankful that I found mine in the trash. Only cost me the price of primer and spray paint.
My great-grandparents had an umbrella stand just inside the kitchen of their house. It held umbrellas and Pappy's canes. Soon, I'm hoping to live in that house, so I'll have to have a suitable umbrella stand or something for that space!
I can carry my Totes umbrella in the pocket of my trench coat. These must be for people who collect vintage canes and umbrellas.
But they look nice in the foyer.
#2 is just ridiculous. And for $160? I just don't get it.
"Crucial"? I don't know a single person who has an umbrella stand, and I never lived with one at any point in my life... Plus all my umbrellas (I have several) are the compact folding kind that would be lost in one of these containers. They sit on the floor of the back seat of my car, on the coat closet shelf, and, when wet, on some water-impervious floor that I can mop after they dry out. (Kitchen usually.)
