This entry makeover first stood out to me because of the great black-and-white damask pattern on the walls. However, there's another little detail about it that just bowled me over. Can you guess what it is?
Those little storage baskets hanging from the shelf in the entryway are shower caddies! What a fantastic idea! They're the perfect place to put often-homeless closet items like gloves, scarves, or roll-up shopping bags. Over at The Shabby Nest, it's stated that the caddies were purchased at IKEA, so not only was this an ingenious repurpose - it was most likely extremely inexpensive too!

Great re-use! And that blue bench is fantastic!
Nice idea. Btw, the black hanger is from Ikea too, I have it :-)
I am going to do this!! Perfect for hats, gloves, scarves!!
what a great way to use the vertical wall space.
I just looked on Ikea and couldn't find this shower caddy, does anyone know where I can find a similar one to order? The ones I have found all have soap baskets underneath :-(
I get fancy bath kits everyyear for Christmas, and they all come in fancy shower caddies - I'm using one for socks right now until I get a dresser.
I would hang the caddies a little higher. I think anyone sitting on the bench would hit his head on them if he leaned back.
Stop the madness. It looks like shower caddies in your entry way. See where those magazine holder are? Take them off. Put another bin (preferably not a woven dustcatcher as pictured) there and put your gloves, scarves, hats in it. Genius!
I have a rather plain church bench painted black in my apartment...I had never thought of adding a wooden architectural element to the back. Thanks for the idea! (There may be an AT "before and after" in my future!)
I have an extremely tight "foyer" and only had a maximum of 12" width and 4" depth out from the stairwell wall next to my coat closet's folding doors. (No, not possible to do pocket doors.) I wanted a small key/wallet/coffee cup landing strip. The usual small wall shelves were too heavy and exposed. Finally figured out I could hang a bamboo tissue box cover at rib level and avoided exposing the place where the hole (in the "top") hung on my 3M hook. I can put keys etc inside on a regular basis and the top is ready for whatever ad hoc need arises. Just looks like a nice bamboo cube on the wall facing me when I come in from the garage before I take off my coat.
My guess is that they store toilet paper in the bench. I live in a great old building, but closet space is a premium. One looks for unconventional ways/places for storage...
That bench is a beauty, but I sure wouldn't want to sit back in it. Or maybe that's the point - no lingering.
