So how do you use this unorthodox combination without its looking like, say, a McDonalds? Be brave! Play around with tone and saturation to find a mix that works. Both colors have a range of vivid to muted shades that can look beautiful together. You can go bold with brights of both or tone down one and let the other take center stage.

Unexpected? Only if you haven't heard of Piet Mondrian and the De Stijl movement.
Btw, that first image is great!
Or ketchup and mustard.
Heh, violets think alike. All I can see is a hotdog stand.
Haha, T_VIOLET! I thought of the red and yellow umbrellas used by Vienna Beef vendors in Chicago! Or, mustard and ketchup, though putting ketchup on a hot dog here in Chicago is frowned upon. :)
I do like some of these spaces, but I think when it's the standard red and yellow, in equal parts, it's a little too much for me.
or McDonald's
I always thought that red and yellow combined would be too much but what you did here is great. It made the room fun and lively.
I suddenly want a hot dog
Wow, I'm surprised that it's considered an unexpected combination. We've painted most of the walls yellow in our small house, and we have a number of pieces of red furniture. I love the combination.
Mmmm red clawfoot tub! Can't get past how much I want it... agree with the mondrian/de stijl comments, though. primaries can be very overused, too.
Am i missing something? Apart from the flower, yellow doesnt really figure in to the clawfoot bathroom.
I see red & yellow mixed together all the time. I mean look at Gryffindor's house colors. Well that's more gold & burgundy, but it's close. Hahaha
Red and yellow in decor doesn't surprise me. But the Spanish Olympic uniforms - they definitely look like they are employees of McDonald's or Chucky Cheese's... or some retro-70s airline.
Yeah, our olympic team uniforms are hideous... What can I say? It's not a spanish design, they were made by some russian guy!
