Above: A Gallery Wall Above the Kitchen Cabinets
If you have tall ceilings at home, the space above your cabinets is likely a neglected spot – one that’s ripe for an assortment of artwork. Lianna explained the story behind this unique gallery in her House Call:
“At first I thought I didn’t have a lot of room to hang all kinds of fun art. It didn’t keep me from buying up prints that I loved; I just stored them in the closet until I found a home. Then one day my husband and I were at one of our favorite restaurants and my husband found inspiration in a very large gallery wall, and suggested we create one above the cabinets. Our ceilings are so tall I never thought of utilizing that space. So the next day we pulled out all the prints we collected and arranged them all the way to the ceiling. It was the best way to open up the space and make the room feel layered.”
A Corner-Rounding Gallery Wall
Another unexpected spot for an arrangement of frames on the wall? Around a corner, as you can see here across the room in the loft’s open living area.
Art Made from Wallpaper Panels
It would be criminal to drywall over the brick in this beautiful room to hang wallpaper. But you can introduce your favorite wallpaper prints with small panels like the two leaning on the nightstand in Lianna and her husband’s bedroom.
Custom-Painted Wallpaper
The other end of the bedroom is “wallpapered,” in a way. Lianna covered this pink wall with custom-painted calligraphy. It’s an affordably large-scale way to cover a wall, and you can use the idea to impart some meaning in your space, as Lianna shared with us:
“One of my favorite things in the whole condo is this wall. It was painted with help from my sister with the words of a favorite inspirational song (Amazing by Jem). On tough mornings I just stare at the wall and sing to myself.”
Would you steal one of these ideas for your own space?
