Q: My husband and I recently bought a corner terrace lot and we are loving the extra yard space around the house. The house is blessed with many windows and two huge sliding doors (front and side). Unfortunately, the height of the sliding doors and windows are not the same.
The sliding doors are 8 1/2 feet high whereas the windows are only 6 feet. My husband and I are planning to custom order curtains but we are wondering whether we should get curtains according to the different heights or get all curtains to be identical size according to the sliding door.

Sprout Side Table
I would order all curtains to be the same height, and possibly mount a roman shade, or some type of shade over the windows, under the curtains - mounted close to the curtain rail and leaving the shade pulled down enough to cover the 2+ feet of wall between the curtain rail and the top of the window casement.
If it were me, I'd definitely order the curtains to be all the same height (as dictated by the height of the doors), both for uniformity and to increase the perceived ceiling height. I even wrote a post about this a couple months back, hope it helps:

This is completely OT but I love that dining room set and hutch. Everything about that room is awesome - despite your curtain issue.
I would agree that you should order all the same length an mount at the same height. http://livelovedecorate.wordpress.com/2010/07/27/decorating-tricks-of-the-pros/
The suggestion of a roman shade would probably be pretty nice. Help with the illusion that everything is the same height. These could be done in white so not to attract too much attention.
We have the same issue in our house. We went with uniform panels. It's easier on the eye than a jumping curtain line.
