Celebrating color all this month, we've been bringing you tons of fun posts about all kinds of different ways you can bring in color to your home, like through your front door, colorful wall hangings, wall paint and even architectural details.
My roommate and I have had this odd space in our apartment ever since we moved in 6 months ago. Not quite big enough to use as a dining room but too big for just an entryway, we decided early on what this room needed was a drum kit. Imagine my delight and surprise when the one my roommate chose to purchase was anything but bland!
This drum kit isn’t just orange—it’s like the colors of a sunrise: a warm, golden red-orange that absolutely enlivens the room. Not only is this drum kit going to give this room some much-needed direction (yes, we realize some art on the walls could help, as well), it’s a huge shot of color into our space.
What’s the oddest or most unique item you’ve ever had that brought color into your space? Do you have colorful musical instruments in your home? Maybe a salvaged vintage sign? Something else? Tell us about the interesting ways that color has come into your home!

My couch is kind of that burnt orange, it's modern and it fits it well, but we do switch out the cover with a charcoal gray for the winter :) But we do have accents of the same orange, or close to it around the room, with the clock, the exit sign, and my favorite, V for Vendetta poster all framed up, it makes my husband and I very happy. I was sad when he got rid of his drum kit, here's a shot of what model he had:

that drum is HUGE! Where'd they get it? :)
I have an afghan from a church rummage sale that I just got last month. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it, and knew immediately that its four colors - mustard yellow, spring green, retired tan M&M brown and a nice chocolatey brown - will definitely be the palate I base my next living room on.
Sooo...neither of you actually PLAY drums?
I have a full kit in my living room. But I actually play.
@RapidTransitMan - The drum is photographed from an angle that makes it look probably larger than what it is. It is likely a standard kick drum & they can come smaller.
@skeemer118
That sort of thing gets an eyeroll from me, but it's no worse than any number of pointless tchotchkes ppl keep around for purely decorative purposes (or even, maybe, a dining room setup that never gets used, antique furniture you can't sit on, family heirlooms "too delicate" for use or display), and maybe they were interested in learning anyway....
@lepidoptery - Craigslist will get these drums as soon as they decide they are a waste of space & just another giant object to dust. :) I agree that it's no different & also roll my eyes at pretty much everything you listed. lol
Its always fun to show off interesting decorations, but they have to be small, out of the way, or practical. After all its a living space, not an art gallery.
