Up Against a Stone Wall

Up Against a Stone Wall

Q: I am recently married and my husband and I are ready to start decorating our apartment. The focal point of the living/dining area is a beautiful fireplace with stone around it. We really want to make use of the space we have so we'd love to hang a picture (from our wedding) right in the middle but we have no clue how to accomplish this without possibly damaging the stone.

Friends have suggested drilling into the grout which would be an easy fix when we decide to move but are there any products or devices we could use to affix to stone without damage?

Editor - Taysha, a wall anchor/brick hook could indeed work, but requires you drill carefully using a masonry drill bit. We'd recommend you skip this and use easily removable 3M Command Hook Strips. We've used them in our own home for frames, installing a home security alarm, and mounted posters. Very easy to apply and nearly as simple to remove (it may occasionally peel painted surfaces, but that's a minor tradeoff for a product that mostly does little damage while holding up your display items without worry).

Got a good question you'd like answered? Send your queries and a photo or two illustrating your question, and we'll see if the Apartment Therapy LA team or our readers can help answer your question.
