Usually, when our puzzles are outgrown or missing too many pieces to count, they either go in the trash or go to Goodwill. But what if there were something else you could do with those old puzzles, something that yields a fantastic piece of abstract kids' art in the process? There is.

Miriam Nolte, a German expat living in Spain, created this large wall piece by taking old puzzle pieces, organizing them by color, and painstakingly laying them out on a canvas and then gluing them on. You can choose any color or spatial design, and certainly involve your kids in sorting and laying out. If you're really talented, you might make a portrait or create some other kind of image.
