We've done a few posts about wooden pallets and scrap wood upcycling in the past, but this one takes the cake: the wedding cake!
Newlywed Santa Monica dwellers, Leah Murphy and her husband Travis, created their headboard originally as a reclaimed wooden stage to be married on. It was constructed with scrap wood, salvaged palettes from the streets of Santa Monica and the junk pile at Silver Lake Architectural Salvage in Pasadena. Finding a new use for such a special element of their wedding day was imperative and the couple eventually reconstructed it into a headboard. The headboard serves as a happy reminder of such a momentous occasion in their lives.
With two pallets as the base, they carefully pieced together the collage of reclaimed wood, trimming where needed and trying to maintain some of the unique attributes of each piece. The future is still unknown! It may become a table, a raised platform, a piece of art or an array of other pieces in their next home. The possibilities are endless!
