A while back we asked for your help in choosing a laminate flooring and are super happy with the results.
We ended up going with the Ikea Balk flooring which they call wood floor and boast that it makes less of that hollow noise than a laminate. We made sure to use the foam sheeting in between the existing plywood flooring and the Balk, which installs similar to a laminate with a 'click and lock system'. It's been about a month and so far so good. It's durable with the cats and the cat food spillage and even the area closest to the outside has faired well through all the rains. We were a little bit afraid that having it in the kitchen might make is susceptible to moisture and begin to warp, so we're keeping our eye on that. The Balk system is more expensive than the laminate flooring at Ikea (it runs about $44 a box rather than $30) but we thought that it's proximity to real wood would be worth it. It still feels and looks like a laminate, but perhaps it will be more durable. Has anyone else installed this flooring? Have anything to report?
