Q: A few years ago, my husband and I bought a pair of vintage chairs at an estate sale. I love them, and particularly their fabric, beyond measure. But, sadly, it's disintegrating at a rapid rate. The cushions were originally the same fabric, but they were falling apart when we got them and I had new ones made. They are obviously a different fabric, but I thought it coordinated well enough to keep the chairs in use and most of the original upholstery intact:
Now the fabric on the rest of the chairs is also falling apart. It's dry and fragile and isn't standing up to daily use. I don't want to make the chairs museum pieces and never sit on them. I've been searching high and low for a new or vintage fabric that is comparable and I'm coming up empty. I'm having dreams of walking into fabric stores and finding a bolt of this particular fabric, but I don't think that is going to happen.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a new fabric that is this same wonderful blue and green, shiny-but-not-too-much?
