To protect against lightning you will need a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) that takes the AC from the wall to charge the batteries and then takes the DC power from the batteries and converts it back into AC for your tech. This is really the only way to protect completely, but UPS like that cost a lot more than a standard UPS.
