Dorel cribs released a recall on 635,000 cribs yesterday. To date, there's 67 counts of reported injury and one reported death. Dorel isn't a name you find at high-end uber fancy stores, but is one carried by most major big box retailers, making this recall effect more people than ever. Details after the jump.

Dorel Asia is voluntarily recalling several models of cribs to replace slatted panels and drop-side
hardware. The recall is motivated by isolated reports of broken crib slats and drop-side hardware. Because safety of Dorel's first and highest concern, they are offering a repair kit, free of charge, contact Dorel Asia at 866-762-2304. More information is available on their website.

Dorel has this to say about their recalled products:

The recalled cribs meet and exceed all applicable safety standards. Hundreds of thousands of Dorel Asia cribs have been properly assembled and used safely without incident. At Dorel Asia there is nothing more important than a baby's health and safety. It is our goal to provide parents with the safest sleep environment for their baby.
What makes this recall extra important is their easy availability. Dorel cribs are found at many of the local big box retailers near you. Some of the most influential are K-Mart, Wal-Mart and Sears. So if you know of someone who might have a Dorel in their possession, make sure to pass along the word to ensure everyone's safety!

Note: The crib which caused the death of the 6 month old Iowa boy, had been tampered with after it's initial malfunction had been discovered. Please do not try to fix this issue on your own!
