I keep an old spare iPod cord at work just to power up my iPhone in an emergency. I plug the USB cord into my work machine and get a little juice to power through the rest of my day. But it would be great if outlets like the one pictured above became standard.
Mac accessory company FastMac is taking orders for their TruePower UCS Power Outlets with bult-in USB ports.
We've seen wall outlets that are designed with USB ports, but this one gives you two ports in addition to your two standard three-pronged ports on your wall outlet. That's four full-power ports with which to charge your USB- or AC-adapted devices.
But besides being useful, these outlets are smart and inexpensive. The $9.95 outlet's USB ports will only draw power when something is plugged in.
FastMac is waiting on UL Approval, but expect the outlets to ship in early 2010 (You can pre-order now). An installation video will be available on the site soon.
