In the past we've talked about the many uses for canning jars, but one of our favorites is still outdoor lanterns. They make candle clean up easy and look great while lighting up your next outdoor gathering. That said, sometimes canning jars can feel a little plain. This quick project can add some simple personality that brings a bit more to the table than your average jar.

Over at the Stylizimo blog there's been some cute crafting going on. These basic canning jars get a bit of a makeover that allows them to retain their simplicity while feeling like they're dressed up for something special. This project puts to use an old leather belt (or one found at the thrift store), and a few things from the garage and garden.

Instead of ditching the canning ring, they put it to use anchoring the new found handle and heather from the garden (though you could substitute any herb). It's a great project to dress up your next dinner party, hand spun wedding, or just dinner for two on the patio as the weather starts to turn autumnal.
