IKEA's RIBBA picture ledge is great for folks who like to rotate the art on their walls. But what if, instead of propping frames up on the ledge, you mounted it above your desk and used it as a sort of workspace "dock" for your books and devices?

Flickr member Mushroom Princess loaded a few camera phone shots of her new workspace to her Flickr account. We're digging the industrial desk and open storage, but the feature we're loving most is the IKEA-hacked book and tech shelf.
Combining IKEA's RIBBA picture display ledge ($14.99, IKEA.com) and the BYGEL rail ($1.99, IKEA.com), she's made a convenient space above her desk to stash books, magazines—and that iPad in the green sleeve.
It's a great way to clear folders and magazines from your desk while still keeping it all nearby. Plus it offers a spot to display your tablet or e-reader without taking up desk space or mounting it to the wall. The BYGEL rail is there to keep it all secure—a great idea for earthquake-prone areas.

This is a great idea! I have a limited amount of desk space, being able to store my charging devices and have my text books out of my backpack and within easy reach with this would be perfect. I like the idea of displaying them facing me forward.
This is exactly what I've been planning to do, only I was planning on making it from wood. Maybe I'll check out the Ikea version to see how the dimensions work.
I also love the shallow worktable height desk. It's perfect for quick, drive-by tasks. Can anyone identify the desk?
