Here's a clever use of that "oh-so-familiar" IKEA RIBBA wall shelf you might not have previously thought of - cord control! While this requires a little bit of sacrificed space behind the media console, but if you have the room to space, we suggest checking out this quick and easy DIY that'll keep those pesky wire jungles from cramping your style and giving your living room a clean, polished look.
Interestingly enough, normal surge protectors seem to fit perfectly on the RIBBA shelves, which makes us wonder if the clever designer behind it all had originally intended it to be re-purposed as such.
We also suggest taking after Kathy's example and drilling a hole for the main cables to run down to the outlet to keep the clutter isolated in the middle of the shelf and not around the edges.
The result is a happy media console without a wire in sight!
If you're low on space already, we'd suggest giving Blupic's under-furniture cord management method a shot, but honestly - for a mere $10, we might just save ourselves a few hours and sacrifice those few inches.

This is an excellent idea. I might do this behind my bed actually. With the requisite iPhone, iPad and lamp cords for 2 we have quite a tangle back there.
oh man I love that entertainment center! #furniturelust
Exactly what i've been looking for! Now they just need to move their components into the credenza and look at the post from today about IR repeaters.
That's been my own plan, jdcarms. Have a huge credenza with three drawers in the middle. I just need to figure out how to hide the blu-ray player without frying it... maybe make a huge cutout in the back of the drawer.
IKEA actually sells a few different cord decluttering solutions in the office area. No need to hack a shelf for the task.
